We have been waiting 3 weeks for our hens to lay eggs, the first egg came on the Sunday 25th May, Molly and the others have been scavenging around the garden, I ate the egg this morning, and it was
We put some eggs in the incubator on 2nd of May, on the 23rd of May we saw some of the chicks hatch, they were so cute and cuddly, and they looked like balls of fluff.
The chicks are doing well; one of them was not a happy chick it had lots of blood on him or her, we said it might not make it, it was so sad. The next morning we thought it had died over night, but when we looked in the incubator, the little chick was alive and is up and running.I called it Mark because it had a mark on its head. Two chicks had problems with their legs sliding around on the slippery floor.it was like they were skating on an ice rink.
1st June; the Light Sussex chicks are doing well, we have put a new rougher floor down, so the two chicks with gammy legs can now walk about OK, and they seem very happy little chicks. We gave the chicks a little bit of spinach today, when the first chick got the spinach they went wild, they started too run round like crazy chasing each other, it was so funny I laughed my socks off.
This Sunday the Light Sussex chicks had a chance to go out side into their run for the first time, they went in out, in out, over and over again. In the afternoon we gave the little chicks a bit of lettuce, they enjoyed that a lot, then we gave them a little bit of Pac Choy and they enjoyed that as well.
The laying chickens were very interested, when molly first looked at the chicks and when the chicks heard a noise they all rushed inside the hut and Molly turned her head from side to side as though she couldnt beleive her eyes.
